Version 2, October 12, 2026

Abodery collects the memories and photographs that official records leave out. When you share something, here is what you’re agreeing to.

You keep ownership

Your words and photos stay yours. You give Abodery permission to keep them, to show the parts you choose to share on this site, alongside the place they describe, with the credit you choose, and to resize or crop photos to fit.

Share only what you have the right to share

Share photos you took, family photos, or images you have permission to use. Please don’t post anything that identifies current residents or shows the inside of a home without the owner’s agreement.

We keep the full version; the public sees what you share

Everything you tell us is kept as your memory’s full record: every sentence, every interview answer and every photo. Before you send it, you see the full version and what the public will see, and you decide which sentences and photos are shared. Only you, Abodery’s editors and the AI privacy check described on our privacy page read the full record.

Some things are always kept private, whatever you choose: contact details such as phone numbers and email addresses, and modern sale prices (from 1980 on) of places people live in. Anything about the health, money or legal matters of someone living stays private unless you tell us it’s about you or that you have their permission.

Three choices

Everything is reviewed

Submissions appear only after an editor reviews them. We may decline anything that is inaccurate, private, or unkind, and we’ll tell you why. Editors may keep more of a memory private than you did, or hold it back longer, but they never publish anything you kept private.

How private details are used

Private detail may help us find connections between places. It is never quoted, and an editor checks every connection before it is published.

You can change your mind or take it back

From your page you can change your choice, or edit or delete anything you’ve shared, at any time. A more private choice takes effect straight away. Sharing more widely, or any other edit, goes back for review before it appears. You can also make a photo you shared private there. Deleting a memory removes it, its full record and all its photos, private ones included. “Keep for the record” is a promise to keep it, not a lock: you can still delete it. If you’d rather we do it, email contact@abodery.com. Read how we handle your information on our privacy page.
