From the National Register nomination

The circa 1850 two-story wood frame Italianate building sits on a brick foundation and is clad in German siding and has a symmetrical main façade under a side-gabled, asphalt shingled roof. The building has 4,400 square feet, which is consistent with scale and massing within the neighborhood. It features a three-bay arrangement, three brick interior-end chimneys, multi-gabled asphalt shingle roof, dentil molding at cornice line, and six-over-nine, double-hung, wood-sash windows with decorative hoods. The front door is centered with decorative glass transom and side lights. The façade is accented with wood columned portico with a second-floor railing. The building has no outbuildings. The house was originally constructed at 640 Cantrell Avenue in 1850 but fell into disrepair and was moved to its current location in 1900 by the current owner’s grandfather. His grandfather selected the 112 Cantrell Avenue address to start with and then, when the street became more developed, he chose to take a sequential number, thus giving the house its current address of 46 Cantrell Avenue. The house style and materials choice are representative of the neighborhood, and the house follows setback from the street typical of the neighborhood. The house is also the oldest in the Old Town neighborhood.
