From the case file

For rest and nature study, the advantages offered here are not surpassed at any other place in the country, but no provision has been made by the National Park authorities for recreations for the patrons... Where the landscaping has been done, and where beautiful rhododendrons, stately white pines, and other natural shrubbery have been arranged in pleasing clumps, the same care for the maintenance is not being exercised around the other cabins at Lewis Mountain
