From the case file
Due to the fact that these proceedings contemplate the taking of all grazing lands on the Blue Ridge Mountains, it will not be possible for me to acquire further grazing lands in the vicinity of the above described property. The land in question cannot be replaced anywhere in this section of Virginia for less than $80.00 per acre.
I do not believe that this land could be replaced for less than $75.00 to $80.00 per acre, even at the present time.
I consider this land of equal value with the Highland County farm purchased by Mr. Patterson, with which I am acquainted, and, if all the grazing lands on the Blue Ridge Mountains are taken under this condemnation proceeding, I do not know where this land could be replaced at less than $75.00 to $80.00 per acre.
