BrickContributes to the historic character of the district
From the National Register nomination
The two-story wood frame brick veneer non-contributing building located at the northwest corner of South Mason Street and East Grattan Street is an interesting example of a modern building for the neighborhood. It was constructed as a multi-family rental unit in 1981 and has 3,422 square feet, which is in keeping with the scale and massing for the neighborhood. The house style reflects elements of revivalist architectural styles mixed in with modified ranch styling on the west projection. The building has a side-gabled roof clad with asphalt shingles, one-over-one, vinyl windows, a centralized point of entry with two doors leading into separate apartment spaces under a one-story, one-bay porch. The west projection provides the third point of entry and displays a smaller scale than the central block of the house, as it is only a one-story, side-gabled addition. The other interesting fact about this property is that the residents have addresses of 104 East Grattan Street, 106 East Grattan Street and 108 East Grattan Street, but the owners and the city lists the address for the property as 587 South Mason Street. While the building is non-contributing due to its age, it does reflect elements typical of the neighborhood and does not disrupt the architectural pattern of the neighborhood.
